Tagging any Text

Summary

This tool tags the glossary terms of an XML file, either from a URL or uploaded from the user's files. Users can choose to tag particular words or patterns, elements, element attributes, or element attribute values.

Tagger was developed as a contribution to the Globalization & Compendium project.

Walkthrough

To tag the <p> and </p> elements appearing in the document at http://www.ucc.ie/celt/texts/E726000-001.xml:
  1. Source text
    1. Enter 'http://www.ucc.ie/celt/texts/E726000-001.xml' in the URL field.
  2. Tag source
    1. Click the radio button next to 'Specify values'.
    2. Enter 'p' in the 'Elements' field.
  3. Results
    1. Click the 'Submit' button to process the text.

Fields

Source URL
To use content from a web page, enter a full web address (URL) in the field provided. Copy and paste from your browser’s address bar for best results.

Local file
To upload a plain text (.txt) file from your computer, choose ‘Local file,’ click ‘Browse,’ and select the file you wish to use from your directory. Note: Not available for Word Brush.

Summary

This section determines what to tag within the document.

Fields

Specify values
This section allows the user to identify parts of a document to tag.
Word/Pattern to tag
Enter a word or pattern (regular expression) to tag here.

Element
Enter the XML element to tag.

Attribute name
Enter an attribute name to tag only instances of an element with a particular attribute modifying it. The element the attribute modifies must match the element entered in 'Element' above.

Attribute value
Enter a value to specify an attribute value to assign to the attribute name entered above.

Local File
To tag a collection of words, use this option to upload a file with a list of words to search for and the tags to go around them. The file must be plain text (.txt) and should be a list of words/phrases, with one word/phrase per line.

Submitted term
To tag the word/pattern with a specific term, enter the desired term in this field.
`*' indicates a required field
